Feeling Meh?? Here’s some top tips for getting you and your goals back on track!!

I’ve always been very open with all of my clients about who I am as a person. Yes, I am trained as a solution focused therapist and mindset coach but just like everyone else I am human and I too have days where I feel meh and a little under the weather.

Last week over on my Instagram account I received a DM from someone who told me they didn’t recognise their current mood as anxious or stressed just a little underwhelmed and feeling “Meh”. So as promised, this post is especially for you…

In my experience, as we work our way through the changing seasons of our lives it is inevitable some will be smoother than others. There will be times where we feel super focused, crystal clear on our purpose, connected with our loved ones and fully on track. In contrast, there are also going to be times where our lives feel upside down, decisions will be analysed, and you will question the life that you have created for yourself and whether it is still serving you.

These ups and downs and “feeling meh” moments can often be catalysts for positive changes in our lives or perfect for reflecting on all that you have and realising what is truly important to you. So, today I wanted to give you some tips on what you can do to regain your focus and purpose if you’re going through a time in your life if you’re feeling a little lost…

Acceptance and Removing Pressure

It’s totally normal to be feeling the way you feel. It doesn’t make you any less of an amazing person and it certainly doesn’t make you weak. Accept how you’re feeling and even schedule in a bit of down time for a few hours to fully acknowledge where your emotions are.

We live in a world where we always have access to everyone else lives… or moreover the “highlights reel” of everyone’s lives. I would highly recommend just taking a moment to step away from your Insta feed when you’re feeling this way. “Comparisinitus” is the thief of any kind of joy, do not go looking at a “socially media polished” version of other people and pondering over how they have achieved goals that are potentially “not right” for you anyway.

Re-Connection

Send a message to a friend or relative you haven’t heard from in a while, or simply take the time to talk to the neighbour you pass by while walking the dog, or the barista at your favourite coffee shop.

Maybe you’d like to go back to that yoga class, or take that cooking class you’ve been talking about, also a great way to make new friends and connections as well.

Exercise and Movement

I know when that “meh” feeling takes hold it can be incredibly difficult to peel yourself from the sofa, never mind exercise. BUT I promise it’s guaranteed to help you shake off that funk!!

In fact, I think this measure should be taken as a precaution to “feeling meh” along with being a great solution when it does strike. Many of you by now will already know about my own “journey” with training, but I speak from experience when I tell you it has had such a positive effect on my productivity.

Get Inspired

Inspiration for me comes in many forms. I love reading, visiting art galleries, travelling to new places, getting out in nature and dancing around the kitchen to 90’s dance tunes (no, I feel no shame about this).

I know we aren’t blessed with the greatest weather in the UK but you truly can’t beat a walk on the beach and I’ve recently got a new found appreciation for outdoors swimming as well.

Breaking Goals Down into Smaller Tasks

Once those initial feelings of “meh” have started to subside I remind myself that moving forward isn’t always going to be a walk in the park. I know a lot of people out there see goal setting as an all or nothing approach but I never take this approach with my clients.

I think if you have goals in mind habits and systems are key to accomplishing them. Looking at one big goal you want to accomplish can seem overwhelming and scary. By breaking your task into smaller, more accomplishable goals , you can feel good about ticking off one or two small tasks off your list . This in turn gives you a bit of a positive feeling and then before you know it you might be further into completing the task than you think with your intrinsic motivation restored.

Check In With You

My final piece of advice is to really take a moment to reflect and check in with you; how often are you feeling meh?? Hopefully these steps will help you to shake it off a little but if you find, subjectively, you’re feeling like this more often than not consider going to talk to a therapist or coach, even if it purely for a one off session.
